Crystal Perkins
Crystal Perkins’ leadership role for the world’s number one ranked hospital in cancer care has its origins in her first high school and college job for a healthcare clinic. After college, the owners of that same clinic made the young, smart, efficient and self-described “sponge,” their Chief Operations Officer.
Since then, Crystal has worked for highly regarded hospitals and medical schools in Baton Rouge and Houston, learning every facet of the business. She is one of the youngest female hospital board members to assist in writing hospital bylaws and ethical guidelines for a magnet rated hospital. Crystal has participated on medical executive boards and committees for one of the top medical schools in the country, managed staff teams, medical professionals and departments with budgets topping $13 million. She has spearheaded the human research area, ensuring federal guideline compliance in patient studies for one of the top-tier private medical schools in the U.S. Crystal also designed a medical school fellowship program for one of the highest ranked medical schools in the state of Texas. Following the first audit review, that same fellowship was awarded the maximum number of years for accreditation.
Crystal currently directs and manages Perioperative Enterprises and surgery scheduling for MD Anderson Hospital, utilizing her proven listening, communications, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills to lead a staff team tasked with revamping and optimizing the hospital’s overall operating room process, usage and resources. With patient safety the highest priority, she works with hospital executives to ensure that over 30 operating rooms serving over 30,000 patients and generating 365 million dollars annually function at maximum efficiency. Additionally, Crystal sits on various committees, leading various projects, while also serving as a hospital subject matter expert and operations officer.
In 2009, Crystal founded My Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides educational and social training to young girls ages eight to 18. Crystal and the foundation have received numerous awards, including Houston’s Top 40 under 40, Houston Business Journal “Biz Women” Woman on the Move, i10 Media’s nonprofit of the month and a City of Houston proclamation declaring My Legacy Foundation Day.
