Local Nonprofit Creates Back to School Event to Benefit Kids in Shelters
YOU ARE A QUEEN FOUNDATION BACK-TO-SCHOOL STUDENT APPRECIATION DAY
AUGUST 6, 2018 – HOUSTON, TX. – On Sunday, August 19, 2018, nonprofit organizations “You Are a Queen” and “KingsIIKings” in collaboration with Franklin Beauty School and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, will host its 1st Annual Student Appreciation Day for the City of Houston benefiting students living in homeless shelters.
“We are excited to collaborate with Franklin Beauty School and Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee’s office for the 1st Annual Student Appreciation Day,” said Sèna Pierre, Founder of You Are a Queen/KingsIIKings organizations. “Student Appreciation Day is centered around the education and acknowledgement of youth and their determination to succeed in an ever-changing environment”.
Students will get prepared for their first day of school with new haircuts and hairstyles services provided by Franklin Beauty School, clothing donations and school supplies provided by Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee’s office and discussions surrounding good hygiene, etiquette, as well other resources that are necessary in encouraging a positive view of education will come from. The nonprofit organization has also received $1,000 in gift card donations from two local Walmarts to help with back-to-school supplies.
“Many youths are faced with distracting and sometimes neglectful circumstances both at home in the classroom which can hinder them from educational and personal growth,” said Pierre. “Student Appreciation Day will allow kids to be kids, encouraging them to think about their own success, education, and happiness.”
Pierre hopes this event will serve as a spot light for kids residing shelters because they get looked-over a lot in life.
“Having this event will let them know that their community has not forgotten about them. They can come and enjoy their day by playing games, eating good food, getting their self-esteem built from our empowerment course, and most importantly, making them feel great not only on the outside, but on the inside as well!”
